Disagreement and conflict is everywhere. We’ve experienced it all. While practicing clinical medicine and serving on hospital operating boards, in C-suites, and as medical staff leaders, we have learned to appreciate that misunderstandings and varying perspectives, despite universally good intentions, may lead to emotionally and financially costly conflict.
A high functioning organization, especially in healthcare where conflict and tension is inevitable, must maintain a well-articulated process for maintaining conflict competence throughout all departments. In fact the Joint Commission Leadership Standard LD.02.04.01, among others, requires such a framework.
Our approach supports developing and maintaining a standard of conflict competence by providing an overall framework of services supporting administrative, Board and Medical Staff leaders, individual departments or groups. We work together with our clients to understand their needs and most pressing issues related to conflict, assessing these and providing relevant solutions. In addition to education and training, we provide site-and problem-specific solutions including coaching, facilitation, and when necessary, informal and formal mediation.
